This online activity leverages existing content on Scholastic.com from the popular Dear America book series to teach American history to children. It incorporates a Flash game, online publishing, and book excerpts. The site is intended for teachers to use with their students in grades 3 through 8. The design challenge was to create an exciting timeline interface and historical Americana look complemented the Dear America brand, but that was distinctly different.
After reading historical fiction in Dear America books, a reader may be interested in finding out more about domestic life throughout American history. This game gives the player an opportunity to play "trading spaces" with a girl from the past. Find out if she likes your taste and learn history, too.
